Most people think that single-car accidents are no big deal. How much damage could someone really cause if they’re the only one involved in the crash? The surprising thing is that, often times, single-car accident can be deadly. This was the case early Friday morning in Jasper County when a Ridgeland man was killed in an early-morning crash.
At about 6 a.m., 55-year old Karl Monty Simpson was driving North on Bees Creek Road. He was driving a 1995 Honda Accord. Suddenly, his car drove off the right side of the road. He ended up hitting an embankment which caused his car to overturn.
Rescue crews arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene. There was no need to take him to the hospital. The coroner was at the scene and called the time of death.
Simpson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. The authorities are still investigating what may have caused the victim to drive off the road. There has been no indication that alcohol or drugs played any role in the accident.
Thankfully, there were no other cars involved in the crash. There has been no comment from the victim’s family. However, if the investigation reveals that there was a defect in the car, his family may have a claim for wrongful death. The same is true if a third party caused the crash and took off.
Sadly, when there’s only one car involved in the crash, it can be hard to find out exactly what happened. There are rarely other witnesses. And, if the victim dies, there’s a good chance we’ll never know what happened.
