Driver Dead, Passenger in Hospital in Liberty Car Crash

Driver dead, a passenger in hospital in a liberty car crash. A couple from Liberty, South Carolina was in a terrible accident on Friday, October 11. The crash took place at about 6:20 p.m. at the 600 block of Rices Creek Road in Liberty.

The man driving the car, Roger Paul Spangler was 28-years old, from Liberty. He was killed in the crash. His passenger, whose name has not been released yet, was airlifted to the local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Spangler was driving his 2007 Honda Accord north on Rices Creek Road when his car veered off the road toward the right. The driver tried to get back into the lane but overcorrected and ended up running off the left side of the road. His vehicle hit a tree and caught on fire.

There’s been no information regarding what caused the crash. Authorities did confirm that both the driver and passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash which is surprising given that it happened at 6 p.m. on a Friday. There doesn’t seem to be any evidence that another car caused the crash. Nor are there any allegations that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. The authorities in Liberty continue to investigate the crash and we imagine more information will be forthcoming.

Accidents like this happen all the time. Just because the crash didn’t involve another car doesn’t mean the accident isn’t serious. Here, one life was lost and another is left in critical condition. The female passenger was said to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
