Woman Charged with Vehicular Homicide in Greenville 2-Car Crash

People get into car accidents every day in Greenville, South Carolina. And, most of these are just that – accidents. Nobody really did anything intentional or reckless. They made a mistake and it caused an accident. Thankfully, most of these don’t result in serious injury or death. However, in some cases, the crash does end up killing its victims. This was the case in Greenville, South Carolina this week.

82-year old Shirkey Spencer was trying to turn onto Cedar Lane Road from East Marion Road. Before she was able to do so, she was smashed into by a 2016 Honda. Spencer’s 2012 Kia was damaged so badly that the rescue crews had to mechanically remove Spencer from the car.

Spencer died as a result of the crash. The other driver, 41-year old Heather Elizabeth Stewart, was also injured and was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital. Stewart was later charged with vehicular homicide.

The investigation is still ongoing. However, the police are pretty confident that Stewart was responsible for the crash. We imagine toxicology reports are pending, however, there has been no details yet.

The family of Spencer has not made a comment as of yet. However, given the fact that Stewart has been charged with homicide, there’s a good chance the victim’s family will file a wrongful death suit against the other driver.

In cases where someone is charged with vehicular homicide, there is often a lot of evidence showing that the driver was at fault. Here, we don’t have many of these details. However, we imagine the investigation is going to reveal these details.
