A man driving down Harris Grove Church Road on Highway 101 was killed by an oncoming school bus on 9th September 2019, WCBD News 2 reports. The Laurens County school bus collided head-on with the car, and the locals say that the driver in the car died on the spot. District officials confirmed that there were no students inside the bus when the accident happened. The bus was heading towards Highway 101, and while crossing the oncoming traffic, it clashed against the car head-on.
The car driver, Herman Alexander Black, 55, from Woodruff, died almost instantly. On the other hand, the bus driver endured minor injuries. He was taken to the nearby Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. Dr. Stephen Peters, the Laurens County School District 55 Superintendent said that the community was sad about the death of Herman Alexander Black. They offered their sincere condolences to his family.
Dr. Peters also mentioned that they are striving to operate their transportation, especially buses, as safely as they can. This incident is yet another learning curve for the Laurens County School District. The superintendent promises that they will ensure the safety and security of the students so that they don’t ever have to face an accident while coming or going from school. The Laurens County School District is deeply saddened by the loss of life of the car driver. The Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team of S.C. Highway Patrol is still investigating this crash. They are trying to find out if the car or the bus was overspeeding or broke a signal. This will help to uncover who hit whom.
